Productive Engagement with the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE)
On June 24, 2025, the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) released its Quality Assurance Report, listing several institutions it deemed as operating without accreditation. The report included a directive for the immediate closure of all “illegal” institutions, which generated public concern and drew attention to the broader regulatory landscape governing higher education in Liberia.

Among the institutions listed was Gonet Academy, a legally recognized professional and technical training institution accredited by the Ministry of Education in June 2022 and later authorized by the Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau (AITB) in September 2024 to operate as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provider. As part of our ongoing commitment to compliance and transparency, Gonet Academy has always aligned its work with national workforce development goals, focusing on professional certificate and diploma programs in project management, M&E, ICT, HR, finance, and more.
In light of the NCHE’s publication, our senior management team held a productive and forward-looking engagement today, June 25, 2025, with Prof. Edward Lama Wonkeryor, PhD, Executive Director of NCHE. The purpose of the meeting was to clarify our status, provide supporting documentation, and explore the pathway for formal accreditation under NCHE’s evolving framework.
During the discussion, we:
– Reaffirmed our legal standing through the Ministry of Education and AITB;
– Expressed our unwavering dedication to regulatory compliance and quality assurance;
– Emphasized our role in empowering over 3,000 Liberian professionals across sectors;
– Acknowledged the broader confusion surrounding inter-agency coordination, and Service Delivery Charters (SDCs).
Prof. Wonkeryor received our team warmly and clarified that the Commission’s goal is not to punish, but to promote collaboration and alignment among institutions. He welcomed the idea of a national dialogue among key education stakeholders to harmonize regulatory frameworks for both degree-granting, professional and technical institutions.
We are grateful for the open, respectful, and solution-driven approach of the NCHE leadership. With shared understanding and mutual goals, we look forward to continued dialogue and collaboration that ensures quality, relevance, and compliance in professional education across Liberia.
Our meeting with Prof. Wonkeryor ended with smiles, optimism, and a few commemorative photos—marking a step forward in harmonizing education regulation in Liberia.
At Gonet Academy, we remain deeply committed to building a credible, accessible, and excellence-driven platform for professional development, technical education and training in Liberia.
