In a deliberate move to strengthen industry-ready skills among its professional learners, Gonet Academy continues to set the benchmark for practical, career-focused education through strategic industry engagements—most recently with a high-impact field visit to CEMENCO Liberia.

The visit, involving learners from the Academy’s Comprehensive Professional Program in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Cohort 13), reflects a growing shift in the country’s professional education landscape—where institutions are moving beyond theory to deliver hands-on, immersive learning experiences aligned with real-world industry demands.

Held at CEMENCO’s operational headquarters along the Japanese Freeway in Monrovia, the field exercise provided students with a rare opportunity to engage directly with one of the nation’s most structured industrial environments.

Led by Training Specialist Mr. J. Ramsey Roye, participants were taken through the full value chain of cement production—from raw material sourcing to final product dispatch—offering a comprehensive view of how procurement, logistics, and supply chain systems operate in a high-volume manufacturing setting.

“This is where theory meets reality,” participants said. “You begin to understand that supply chain is not just a concept—it’s a living system that drives business performance.”

Throughout the visit, students engaged with key operational processes, gaining practical insights into inventory management and warehouse coordination, supplier engagement and sourcing strategies, demand forecasting and distribution planning, and quality assurance systems integrated into production.

CEMENCO officials emphasized that cement manufacturing demands precision, coordination, and strict adherence to quality standards—lessons that reinforced the importance of discipline and systems thinking in supply chain management.

Students also observed advanced automation systems and real-time monitoring technologies in the plant’s central control room, underscoring how digital transformation is reshaping industrial efficiency.

A defining feature of the visit was its strong emphasis on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards—an area increasingly critical in Liberia’s growing industrial sector.

Field visits of this nature deepen students’ practical understanding of industrial supply chain operations, quality assurance processes, and workplace safety standards, while sharpening their analytical and professional competencies through direct engagement with industry practitioners.

Participants underwent a mandatory safety induction and were introduced to workplace protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment such as helmets, safety boots, reflective vests, goggles, and face masks.

From hazard identification to emergency response procedures, the experience instilled a deeper appreciation for safety as a core operational priority—not an afterthought.

“Safety is not optional in environments like this—it is foundational,” a facilitator explained during the session.

The significance of such initiatives extends beyond the classroom. Liberia continues to face a persistent gap between academic training and industry expectations, particularly in technical and professional fields.

By embedding experiential learning into its programs, Gonet Academy is actively addressing this disconnect—producing graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also job-ready.

Industry observers note that this model is critical for national development.

“Employers today are looking for competence, not just certificates,” an official of the company said. “Institutions that provide practical exposure are giving their students a clear competitive advantage.”

Over the years, Gonet Academy has positioned itself as a premier professional development institution in Liberia, offering programs that respond directly to labor market needs across sectors including business, public administration, health and safety, and logistics.

Its emphasis on competency-based training, industry partnerships, and real-world application is helping to reshape perceptions of professional education in the country.

Beyond individual career advancement, the broader impact is national, such as strengthening workforce capacity in key sectors, supporting private sector growth and productivity, enhancing operational standards across industries and contributing to economic competitiveness.

The CEMENCO field visit stands as a practical demonstration of what modern education in Liberia can—and should—look like: collaborative, experiential, and aligned with industry realities.

The experience, for the learners, goes beyond knowledge acquisition. It builds confidence, sharpens analytical thinking, and cultivates professional discipline—qualities essential for success in today’s competitive job market.

As Liberia continues to rebuild and modernize its economy, initiatives like this underscore a critical truth, Gonet Chief Empowerment Officer (CEO), Mohammed Kerkulah, always emphasizes, adding that sustainable development is not only about infrastructure—it is about people.

He described the visit as a significant milestone in preparing students for careers in procurement, logistics, and supply chain management and expressed appreciation to the management of CEMENCO for its commitment to supporting practical education.

Meanwhile, through its innovative training model, Gonet Academy is playing a pivotal role in preparing the next generation of professionals to lead, innovate, and deliver.
