From Intern to Full-Time Staff

–The Inspiring Journey of Diana K. Miller at Gonet Academy

What began as a short internship placement has now blossomed into a remarkable professional journey for Ms. Diana Kietuah Miller, who has officially joined Gonet Academy as a full-time staff member. Her story, considered as one of opportunity, growth, and impact, reflects not just personal triumph, but also the power of partnerships and the transformative potential of youth empowerment initiatives in Liberia.

Diana entered Gonet Academy in August 2025 through the SOS Children’s Villages Liberia Vacation Career Mentorship Pilot Project. Initially assigned for a one-month internship, her performance, discipline, and professionalism quickly convinced management to extend her stay — first to three months, and now to full employment.

Today, Diana serves as the Academy’s Receptionist, a role she earned through passion, teamwork, and a clear commitment to service. News of her full employment was announced on Friday, November 14, 2025, at a brief ceremony held to commemorate the completion of her internship program.

Gonet Academy’s CEO, Mr. Mohammed Kerkulah, said Diana’s journey is proof of what is possible when institutions invest in young people:

“I want to thank Diana for the level of support she has given Gonet since her arrival. She has added value to the work we do here. This program shows what’s possible when we give young talent the space to grow.”

He credited SOS Children’s Villages Liberia for a partnership that he believes must continue and expand:

“If SOS had not developed this initiative, we wouldn’t have even thought about hosting one of their mentees. We are very grateful.”

In recognition of her accomplishments, Gonet Academy CEO, Mohammed Kerkuah, awarded Diana a formal Internship Certificate, acknowledging her professionalism, dedication, and contributions.

The three-month internship, designed to build employability and leadership skills, allowed Diana to work across departments — including administration, program support, enrollment services.

A Young Woman of Purpose and Resilience

Diana, a graduate of the African Methodist Episcopal University with a degree in Public Administration, described the experience as life-changing — especially since this was her first professional work experience. She considers herself a proud beneficiary of SOS Children’s Villages youth empowerment program.

“My internship at Gonet Academy was amazing… It taught me teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, and customer service. I learned to be patient, resilient, and to see myself through the eyes of the client.”

She was deeply moved when she learned she had been hired full-time.

“It came to me as a surprise. I was hopeful, but afraid. Liberia is a country where people say if you don’t know someone, you don’t work. But when God has a purpose for you, it comes to pass. This was one of my secret prayers.”

For Diana, this is not just a job — it’s a mission. “I want to grow, learn, and make an impact. I’m joining a team that believes in resilience, empowerment, and service to society.”

A Meaningful Impact

During her time as an intern, Diana supported the Gonet Academy’s Youth Empowerment Vacation Program, impacting 44 young people. She helped coordinate and execute the Cohort 12 Graduation, assisted with student guidance and onboarding during Cohort 13 enrollment. She also helped to enhance customer service and administrative coordination. She also contributed to team support after working hours — voluntarily.

Her willingness to adapt, stay late, and provide leadership set her apart, team members noted.

Tarlee A. Nuahn, MEAL Lead at Gonet Academy, praised her contribution: “Your role in directing students, supporting registration, and ensuring quality has helped us grow. We appreciate you.”

Two SOS Youth Leaders, Theresa Gboluma and Elvis Kokeh, attended the event and praised both Diana and Gonet Academy for a successful partnership.

Gboluma: “Wherever we send our participants, you help shape their future. Diana, we are proud of you. You have added value to your life and to the institution.”

Kokeh: “We hope the next phase of your journey is as meaningful as this one. Your work here made a difference.”

A New Chapter Begins

In recognition of her accomplishments, Diana was awarded a formal Internship Certificate, acknowledging her professionalism, dedication, and contributions.

“Management is pleased to announce that Diana has been awarded a full-time employment,” Gonet Academy Human Resource Coordinator Antoinette N. Nimely said at the brief ceremony. “This is our little way of appreciating Diana for the great work she has done. She has been a great member of our team. Congratulations and welcome on board.

Other Gonet Academy staff described her team-oriented, disciplined, and a fast learner.

As she steps into her new role, Diana stands as a symbol of hope to other young Liberians — especially those who doubt that merit can still speak louder than connections.

A Model for Youth Development

This internship model — in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages — demonstrates how structured mentorship combined with real-world skills training can create jobs, strengthen institutions, empower youth, and help build a more skilled and confident workforce. It could be a formula worth replicating across the country.

For Diana, this has been a worthy journey so far as she closed her message with gratitude, hope, and vision, “I’m grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to being that great employee — part of a team that is resilient, impactful, and truly making a difference in society.”

Her story is a reminder that talent is everywhere — but opportunity is not.
And that institutions like Gonet Academy are helping change that truth, one young professional at a time.
